Col. Lloyd L. Hanes, US Army (Ret.) age 94, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2011 in San Antonio, Texas. Col. Hanes was born in Atlanta, Georgia on April 21, 1917. He served thirty one years in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II, Korea and served tours in Panama, Iceland, the Pentagon and a number of other stateside assignments. He was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal w/IOLC, Combat Infantrymans Badge, ADSM, ACM, EAME, Camp Med, WWII Victory Medal, AOM (Germany) Department of the Army Ident Badge, Army Commendation Medal w/IOLC, BSM, Legion of Merit w/IOLC. In retirement, he had a Building Inspection business in Arizona, and he was appointed by the Governor to the State Board of Junior Colleges. He was a Delegate to the Republican National Convention from Arizona. Col. Hanes was Commander of the Military Order of World Wars one year, and he participated in a number of Military activities, Alzafaar Shrine and the Masons. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Hazel Hanes.

Funeral Mass: Thursday, May 5, 2011 11:30 am- Monsignor Patrick Ragsdale officiating

Interment with full military honors following mass, 1:30pm, Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery

Memorial Service: Friday, May 6, 2011 10:30 am- Patriot Heights-All Faiths Chapel with reception to follow.
