Valentin "Miguel" Madera peacefully went to his eternal rest on January 20, 2010, at the age of 87, after a long battle with prostate cancer. |
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Celia Antonia Casiano de Madera.
He is survived by his daughter Celia M. Thompson, and her husband Myron Thompson; his son Miguel A. Madera, and his wife Ludy Pagan de Madera; five grandchildren, Jessica Thompson, Andrew Thompson, Jomar Madera de Vazquez, Joy Madera de Rodriguez, and Jafet Madera, and their spouses; four great-grandchildren; his sister Elvida Madera de Perez, and brother Francisco Madera; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was born in the Dominican Republic, grew up in Puerto Rico, and spent his adult years in New York City and Puerto Rico. He served in the army during World War II and enjoyed many years as a Boy Scout leader. After he retired from a long career as a pharmaceutical warehouse manager and moved to San Antonio, he and his wife spent much time ministering to the sick as Eucharistic ministers. He was a staunch NY Mets fan and lifelong baseball enthusiast.
His family wishes to thank the caring staff of Alamo Hospice for their service during his final days, especially nurse Jackie Donnell, and his caregiver Jennifer Gomez.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 22nd, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
